High-end basses. Without breaking the bank.
Your vision. Engineered to perfection.
At RKM, our team of engineers and industrial designers made a deliberate decision: to become luthiers. Not despite their technical backgrounds — because of them. That combination elevates every instrument we build beyond what traditional lutherie alone can achieve: superior design, precise ergonomics, and a sound that is both intentional and exceptional.
The Custom Shop is our highest expression of this philosophy. You bring your vision — physical and sonic — and we engineer it into an instrument that plays and sounds exactly the way you imagined it. The attention is one-on-one, from first consultation to final setup.
Your Custom Shop bass is priced the same no matter where you are in the world — no regional markups, no hidden fees. Each Custom Shop bass is quoted individually with the customer. Taxes of origin included. Orders within Mexico and the United States pay no import duties under current rules, and RKM pays the customs broker charges. Buyers in all other countries, including Canada, pay their import duties, taxes, customs fees and customs broker charges — we'll always be transparent about this before you commit.
Every Custom Shop order starts with a conversation. These are the key variables we work with to ensure the bass fits your body, your playing style, and your sound.
From short scale for comfort and warmth, to 35" for extended-range tension and clarity. We help you choose the right scale for your playing style and tuning.
Whether you need the focused voice of a 4-string, the versatility of a 5, or the full range of a 6-string: 4, 5 and 6 strings on Modern P/J/M; 5 and 6 strings on Singlecut, Double Cut and Headless. Left-handed builds are available too.
String spacing directly affects playability and technique. Tight spacing suits fast players and slap; wider spacing favors fingerstyle and a more open feel. We engineer the nut and bridge to your spec.
The neck profile defines how the back of the neck feels in your hand — one of the most personal choices in bass building. Available options vary by string count:
Plus: Body woods, neck woods, fingerboard material, pickup configuration, hardware finish, body finish, binding, inlays, and more — all selected together in your consultation.
Our luthiers come from engineering and industrial design backgrounds. Every joint, every radius, every setup specification is calculated — not just felt.
You deal directly with the people building your bass. No intermediaries. Every decision — from wood selection to pickup height — is made together with you.
Our six base models are refined, proven designs — not blank canvases. We build around them to ensure structural integrity, while adapting every detail to what you're looking for, physically and sonically.
We partner exclusively with brands like Hipshot, EMG, Nordstrand, Aguilar, Fralin, Lollar, La Bella, and more. The hardware on your RKM is the same hardware world-class players trust on major stages.
Each model has a defined silhouette and structural philosophy — then it becomes yours. Choose your scale, strings, woods, hardware, and finish. Available in 4, 5, or 6 strings, right- or left-handed.
