Manou Gallo

Manou Gallo, born in 1972 in Divo, Côte d’Ivoire, is a renowned bassist, singer, and percussionist. She began her musical journey at age 12, performing with the group Woya, which gained acclaim across West Africa.

 

In 1997, she joined the Belgian ensemble Zap Mama, touring internationally for six years. Gallo later launched a solo career, blending Afrobeat, funk, and jazz influences. Her debut album, Dida, was released in 2003, followed by Manou Gallo in 2007 and Afro Groove Queen in 2018.

 

Recognized as the “African Queen of Bass” by Bootsy Collins, she has collaborated with artists like Manu Dibango and Wyclef Jean. Her latest album, Afro Bass Fusion, was released in 2023.
